This is an original vintage knitting pattern leaflet from the 1940s era.
It measures approximately 5" x 7" and its in an overall good condition for its age. It does have a few creases and its free from any knitters notes or markings. The original cover price is 3d. (pre-decimilisation)
Baby's Layette Set comprising a Dress, Matinee Coat, Vest & Bootees.
One size to fit 18.5" chest.
Matinee Coat: Length 10", Sleeve Seam 5".
Dress: Length 16.5", Sleeve Seam 1.75".
Vest: Length 9.5", Sleeve Seam 2".
The original yarn used was a 3 ply baby yarn knitting to a tension of 7 sts and 9 rows to 1" measured over stocking stitch.
Vintage yarn is different to what is available today so check the tensions on the bands and choose the yarn best suited to the tension in this pattern. It may be that you will need to use a modern 4 ply as 7 sts to 1" is more like the tension of a 4 ply.
